A Faith-Filled Future!

From the Principal Celebrate Catholic schools!!  I want to personally thank all of you who sacrifice by offering your time, talent, and treasure in support of Catholic education.  Without your efforts, the future of our community, county, state, nation, and world might become less filled with faith in Jesus Christ, our savior.  With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our children will grow to become faith-filled Christians and good citizens for our community and our world.  God bless you!

  1. Catholic Schools Week The theme for Catholic Schools Week is "A Faith-Filled Future".  Next week we will be passing out buttons boasting this theme for each of our students.  Encourage them to wear it proudly as Catholics and/or Christians.  We have planned several activities (please see the flyer today) to celebrate the week starting with our student speakers at the weekend Masses.  I want to thank all of the families who volunteered to have their children read to the congregations.  Your participation in this activity presents a wonderful image of our students and our school.  Also, our weekly school Mass will be on Monday, 26 January, at 8:45am (instead of Tuesday).  Finally, the Open House on Tuesday, 27 January is meant for prospective school families.  We will be providing tours and distributing information about Mother Catherine Spalding School during this Open House.  I have asked the teachers to focus on academics during this time, so the classrooms will not be open for visits by school parents and family members.  However, school parents, grandparents, and special friends are very welcome to attend lunch with their child(ren) according to the schedule in the flyer.  Thank you for accepting this change from the past.

  2. Bingo:  As promised, the administration and the School Advisory Board will ask for your input on the level of participation in the Bingo Fundraising Program.  At the Home and School Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 28 January at 7pm, you will be able to voice your opinions and recommend a level of commitment when we renew our relationship with ADF Bingo in February.  After the meeting, I will distribute a ballot sheet to all families in my weekly correspondence so everyone has an opportunity in the process, even if they cannot attend the meeting.  To help you understand how important fundraising and specifically Bingo fundraising is to our school community, I have included a financial analysis of the Bingo Fundraising Program since September 2003.  Although this is a short time period, it provides a valuable look at the options we have to consider.  Please bring it to the meeting with your questions.  Keep in mind, our fundraising programs have directly supported our operating budget keeping tuition acceptable for most families, and have allowed us to make major capital improvements to the physical plant (e.g. new roof and air conditioning).  Let us pray for the right decisions.

  3. Home and School Association:  Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 28 January at 7pm.  Thank you for attending and representing your family.

  4. Science Fair Projects:  Mrs. Byrd reminds all Middle School families, science fair projects are due, Monday, 2 February.  Additionally, the Science Fair is scheduled for Thursday, 5 February, from 6-7:30pm.

  5. Report Cards: Report cards for PreK through Grade 5 will go home tomorrow, 23 January.  The Middle School report cards will not go home until late next week.  The death of Mrs. Mergner's father-in-law necessitates her absence from school this week.  Please understand this unique circumstance.  Thank you.

  6. Candy Drive: Please see the flyer announcing the 2004 MCSS Candy Drive.  Mrs. Ucekay and Mrs. Alvey are graciously coordinating this event.  By reaching or exceeding your goal, you will be supporting our entire school community.  Thank you.

  7. Casino Night: Please see the flyer requesting support for the Spring Casino Night.  Mr. Burch needs volunteers confirmed by Wednesday, 4 February.  The Fall Casino Night brought in more than $5,000.00, so this activity continues to be an important part of our fundraising program.  Casino Night is scheduled for Friday, 20 February at the Hollywood Fire House.

  8. MCSS School Dance: The 8th Grade Families are sponsoring a Middle School Dance tomorrow, 23 January from 7-10pm.  It's a beach theme!!!

  9. Saint Mary's School Dance: Our Middle School students are invited to a Saint Mary's School of Bryantown school dance for Friday, 30 January at 7pm.  Please see their flyer.  Class lists will be faxed to Saint Mary's School.
