Expulsion proceeding begin when there is a serious violation of school regulations.  The parents, student and administration will have a joint conference.  at this time all parties will have an opportunity to discuss the situation.  Parents have a right to a hearing, which must be held within a week of the serious violation.  The student is not allowed in school until the hearing is held.  At the time of the hearing, it will be decided if the student's behavior is sufficient grounds for terminating the contract between school and student.

The school reserves the right to impose appropriate sanctions at its discretion for very serious infractions, including, but not limited to, the following areas of discipline:

  • Harassment

Discipline Procedure

Mother Catherine Spalding uses a program of positive reward for following rules and assertive consequences for rule infractions.

1.     Teacher's Role

Each teacher develops rules of behavior and a discipline plan for his/her classroom.  At the beginning of the school year, these are discussed with the students.  Our students understand that they are ultimately responsible for their own behavior.

Most instances of misbehavior are handled by the teacher in the classroom according to that teacher's discipline plan.  This includes teachers of all subjects in all grades.

2.     Principal's Role

If a student has difficulty adapting to a teacher's classroom behavioral requirement, the Principal becomes involved in increasingly intensive interventions.

3.      DISCIPLINE POLICY

Students are expected to comply with all school rules as listed in the handbook (and also on this website).  Disciplinary measures will be taken once verbal notice has been given to the student.  The policy described below will be followed when necessary:

  • First Offence - Lunch hour detention, Parent/guardian notice sent home, phone call to parent.

  • Second Offence - Lunch hour detention, Parent/guardian notice sent home, phone call to parent.

  • Third Offence - Lunch hour detention, Parent/guardian notice sent home, phone call to parent.

  • Fourth Offence - Parent/guardian notice sent home, phone call to parent, parent conference, lunch hour detention

  • Fifth Offence - Written and phone notice, conference and one day in-school suspension

  • Sixth Offence - Written and phone notice, conference and one day out of school suspension
