Transportation

Students are transported, free of charge,
to and from school on school buses
provided by St. Mary's County.
Buses
Most
students are transported to and from
school on school buses and they must be
mindful that with this privilege there is
corresponding responsibility. All
students must obey the bus rules that are
posted on the bus. A copy of these
rules will be sent home with your child
during the first few weeks of school.
The students owe respect and consideration
tot he drivers and to each other.
The drivers are in authority when the
children board the bus. A minor
infraction of the bus rule by a student
will result in the bus driver talking with
the child. If the infraction
continues, the bus driver may phone the
parent or may give the school principal a
written bus behavior referral. The
school principal will investigate and
respond in writing to the bus driver with
a copy to the parent. The school
principal may suspend the bus riding
privilege s of the child from 1 to 3 days
or issue a written warning. Further
violations will result in a school bus
suspension for the entire school year.
a major infraction of a bus rule by a
student will result in a school bus
suspension without written warning.
Student misbehavior at a bus stop prior to
boarding the bus, or departing from the
bus is also under the supervision of the
bus driver and subject to written
referrals by the bus driver. If
there is a problem on the bus, please
contact the bus driver first. If the
problem continues to exist, then bring the
problem to the attention of the school
principal. The supervisory of Bus
Transportation may be reached at
301-475-4496.

Changing Means of Transportation or Bus
Stops
Students who wish to ride a different bus
or get off at a different stop must have a
note, signed by the parent or legal
guardian. The student will bring this note
to the office to be co-signed by the
school Principal or an Assistant
Principal. This signed note will be
given to the bus driver. The bus
driver will not honor a verbal request
from the student. Emergency phone
calls from the parent may be accepted for
only the following circumstances:
Change from assigned bus to parent vehicle
or change from parent vehicle to assigned
bus. A parent phone call to have
their child ride a different bus from the
assigned bus can no longer be accepted
unless prior arrangements have been made
listing two assigned buses (i.e. bus "x"
to home, and bus "y" to child care
provider). In extreme emergencies
the school Principal or the Assistant
Principal will review your circumstances
and make a decision.
